Vibe coding is a game-changer for non-technical people. It’s an untraditional coding method that is reshaping how we create in the digital world. Using AI tools and natural language prompts, we can now intuitively create software and digital content based primarily on aesthetics and what we want to feel instead of relying on strict logic or traditional programming paradigms. If you’re hip enough to know what a “vibe” is, you can vibe code.
What Exactly Is Vibe Coding?
Vibe coding is when you prompt AI to create software prototypes, visual designs, music, or digital storytelling. Here’s an example prompt for vibe coding music:
“Compose a calm, ambient track that evokes the feeling of early morning by the ocean, using gentle piano melodies, subtle synthesizer pads, and soft rhythmic percussion. The track should gradually build over three minutes, creating a sense of peaceful awakening.”
Toro y Moi did a generative AI performance using Google’s Lyria RealTime for the pre-show of Google I/O '25, Google’s annual developer conference.
Vibe coding is great for rapid iteration and experimentation because it allows quick visualization, testing, and refinement without much coding knowledge.
Benefits and Drawbacks
The benefits include:
Faster iteration means figuring out direction and working out kinks faster, which can be a money saver by avoiding a longer development timeline. In other words, prototyping can be done much faster and by fewer people to be able to test ideas which can give companies a significant advantage.
Designers, artists, and marketers can actively shape digital products instead of waiting for their programming team to deliver a prototype. People who, in the past, have had to translate their idea and vision to others can now start to do some of that prototyping themselves, which can create a higher fidelity version of that prototype.
Vibe coding comes with challenges, too. Take a look at this prompt:
“Create a soothing chatbot for people experiencing anxiety. The tone should be empathetic and calm, like a therapist or supportive friend. Include breathing exercises, positive affirmations, and gentle check-in questions.”
Potential Risks:
AI-generated code may not comply with data protection standards, or in this case, HIPAA, as noted in the Financial Times' coverage of AI’s limitations in healthcare prototyping
AI could produce maximalist solutions, or misunderstand nuanced requirements, including what is not a requirement. For example, what if this soothing chatbot promises users it can respond to a crisis, but doesn’t actually have the backend design to do that? A person in crisis doesn’t need another broken promise.
Outputs might superficially appear correct, but can break down under real-world stress or when scaling. The nuances of how exactly a product will need to scale or how user behavior will evolve can be predicted. However, implementing changes to scale and accommodate user behavior that doesn’t fall under what is predictable requires human oversight.
How to Mitigate These Challenges
If you read our blog on context, you know that more information dumped into a prompt isn’t the way to getting better answers, but adding clarity around a few key areas is essential when vibe coding. Expect to:
Provide explicit, detailed prompts clearly outlining business constraints, security requirements, and performance expectations.
Regularly review AI outputs, refining prompts with feedback loops to progressively enhance results.
Orienting your process around a plan that includes testing its outputs in small chunks and continually relying on human judgment for quality control and follow-up questions. This is especially important for architecture-level decisions, security audits, and scalability planning. Fusion AI has built in follow-up questions that can help to consider other issues the vibe coder may not have thought about, but human oversight is still critical.
Two Practical Guardrails
Prompt with precision – Start with plain-English vibes, then layer in business, security, and performance constraints (“must support 10k concurrent users; encrypt PII at rest”).
Human-in-the-loop QA – Treat AI as a co-pilot. Continuous review and incremental tests catch hallucinations before launch. Human feedback is critical in this process and can greatly increase the success rate and quality of the finished product.
Fusion AI’s built-in “follow-up questions” feature nudges creators to ask about edge cases they might miss.
Impact on the Workforce and Job Market
Vibe coding isn’t eliminating jobs, but it is transforming them. It’s creating new opportunities and roles focused on:
AI prompt engineers, experts skilled at guiding AI through nuanced prompts.
AI governance specialists, people ensuring that generated code meets ethical, security, and compliance standards.
System architects and technical leaders, whose work is made more efficient by bridging AI-generated components with scalable and sustainable architecture.
GitLab CEO William Staples called vibe coding a “net creator” of jobs, seriously boosting productivity and expanding possibilities in the software and digital media world.
